Given a chance, would you like to go back to year 2000 to change (a minute of it, split-second, etc.)  a chapter in your life?  Well, it is possible.  You have to an Ethiopian and/or live in Ethiopia.

The Ethiopians welcomed the millenium on September 11.  They are behind the West because they follow the Coptic calendar as opposed to the Gregorian’s.  In its capital, Addis Abada, thousands attended events including the centerpiece of the festivities - a concert by the Black Eyed Peas (I love them!).  This was also celebrated in London with a concert of Ethiopian music at Trafalgar Square.

Without the need to be a Ethiopian or to live in Ethiopia, would you want to come back in 2000 even for a day?  And of course, there must be a reason.

Yes, I do.  But please do not ask me why.  :p

A derivative day

September 6, 2007

in Life, Philippines

I am taking a cut of my installment book fair blogs.  We had the first of the two-day IFRS Updates.  The Firm now holds the seminars and/or trainings for the professionals at DLSU Institute of Advanced Studies in RCBC Plaza.  I like it better than the Tiara Hotel and other hotel-held seminars since it has a classroom atmosphere there and the food are definitely better.  Quality over quantity.  Or it maybe it can be attrubuted to the good choice of caterer.  Unlike the seminar packages in the hotels.

I really enjoyed the IFRS Updates.  And I realized that e-learning is a must before you attend this one.  If you dare to come clueless, you are at risk of getting embarrassment (well, it depends.. if you don’t care much whenever you can’t respond to the expected and unexpected query from the lecturer/facilitator.  Worse, you are at the risk of getting at your most clueless-information overload state.

We dealth with IFRS 7 superseding IAS 32 and other related amendments to IAS 39 - all about Financial instruments.  It was an interactive session and we dealt with derivatives 65% of today.  Really an information overload.  But I really appreciate it :p  Just when I thought I had enough of these from several external and interna seminars/trainings - I was wrong.  There is so much to learn.  Truly, this field is ever evolving.  Somebody can’t afford to just be a sitting duck.

Tomorrow is another exciting and challenging day.  That would be a non-derivative day, anyways.  I wouldn’t be surprised if in my dreams I see myself continuing my hedging exercises while :p

It is headcracking, but I wouldn’t mind getting more “derivative days”.

Let the titles do the talking

September 5, 2007

in Books

I like to judge the book by its cover, don’t you?  What about judging the books by their titles? Here are some of the several catchy titles that caught my less than a minute attention:

The second one is a response to one of my favorite non-conventional books, He’s just not that into you.  I never read this version, but the subtitle sound pathetic, “the insanely determined girl’s guide to getting the man she wants” :(

And this one made me laugh!

So, what’s your favorite title from here? :p
