Cupcakes By Sonja

When I went to Serendra last month, Cupcakes by Sonja was my first target.  I read good and  a few not so good reviews about this cakehouse, hence, the curiousity.  I was there at 10:30 AM and learned that it opens at 12:00 noon the earliest.  Not to strain my patience, I opted to look around and settled for Marta’s Cakes, which is definitely not bad as a second choice by chance.

At almost 1:00 PM Cupcakes by Sonja’s opened and I decided to just get two flavors for take out.  I noticed that there was already a queue.  The inside of the store is not spacious and you wouldn’t find much childlike touch compared to the other cakehouse, Marta’s cakes.  The patronizers usually go for a take out, at least a box (it has nice packaging!).  No kiddie cakes offered but they invest on the flamboyant toppings.  I got these for a first try, and I only need a few after a considerable intake from Marta’s stuff:

(L) Red velvet vixen, PhP65@; (R) Mint condition, PhP68@.  Loved both esp. the mint!Noticed the big difference in prices?  Almost twice of Yumi’s yummy piece of cake and Marta’s Cakes.  In addition, Sonja offers a variety of cupcakes.  There are fancier flavors which range from Php86 to PhP120+ each.

To date, yummy piece of cake is the most reasonable I think.  As to kiddie touch, I go for yummy piece of cake (again) and Marta’s cakes.  For more aristocratic but costly cakes, I might go for Sonja occasionally.  However, yummy piece of cake can also beat anything in Sonja’s - economy and quality combined.
