From the monthly archives:

March 2008

I was reading Reuters a while ago and it says, “Muslims more numerous than Catholics:  Vatican“.  Islam has overtaken Roman Catholicism as the biggest single religious denomination in the world, the Vatican said on Sunday.  Monsignor Vittorio Formenti, who compiled the Vatican’s newly-released 2008 yearbook of statistics, said Muslims made up 19.2 percent of the world’s population and Catholics 17.4 percent.

“For the first time in history we are no longer at the top: the Muslims have overtaken us,” Formenti told Vatican newspaper L’Osservatore Romano in an interview, saying the data referred to 2006.  He said that if all Christian groups were considered, including Orthodox churches, Anglicans and Protestants, then Christians made up 33 percent of the world’s population — or about 2 billion people.

The Vatican recently put the number of Catholics in the world at 1.13 billion people. It did not provide a figure for Muslims, generally estimated at around 1.3 billion.  Formenti said that while the number of Catholics as a proportion of the world’s population was fairly stable, the percentage of Muslims was growing because of higher birth rates.  He said the data on Muslim populations had been compiled by individual countries and then released by the United Nations, adding the Vatican could only vouch for its own statistics.

I am a Roman Catholic.  A few of my immediate thoughts:

(a) There are about as many Christians as Muslims, and Catholics are not the only sect of Christianity.

(b) Because religion is such a democracy.

(c) I don’t think that it is like a contest of indoctrination of kids

(d) What about the number of atheists?

(e) Whaetelse?

Just my thoughts.  Be good, everyone!

When I learned that a colleague from previous office was coming here, I requested for some “contrabands”, i.e. 8 boxes of vitamins (with 2010 expiry) and 3 packs of chocnut.

Photobucket

Yeah, after all the luxurious and trivial chocos and other sweets that I met here.  I would always be a chocnut kid.

I am now finishing my second pack.  Only a pack would be left tomorrow.

Can I just say that I am so happy?

in Friends, Life

Got a call from a friend this morning

A big bad news.

Told me, “I should have listened to you”…

and cried.

I almost cried that moment.

Now I am home,

talked over the phone again.

I am now crying, too.

Can we trade places even for a day?

I can easily take away all the hurt

Because I have been there.

We are tough

We are warriors

As the song says, but

The warrior is a child

Ssssh… listen

cry

BUT CRY IF YOU MUST

Long Weekend Sickness?

March 24, 2008

in Life

Or whatever you will call it.  That’s the problem when you came from a long, beautiful and peaceful weekend… the next working day would be like a big bang!  Meetings, reviews, social hypes to the max, etc.  That was today.

Another thing, I found myself enjoying the extremes.  Because I had much time… that was 4 days.  I really maximized it doing non-work related stuff.  Mostly reading, a few outdoors, and sleeping (I recently resumed my interest in sleeping when I read  The Science of Sleep.  That really gave me big worries.  I am afraid it would be payback time for my extreme lack of sleep in the past.   That’s another story.)   Until sunday afternoon came.  I finished several tasks in a whirlwind.  Actually, stayed so late till early monday morning.  Fool me.  I am glad it worked.  But I realized it feels good to cram, hehe.

It is 1037pm now.  Gee, my 24/7 berks, you gotta check read that, too.

Good night, everyone!
