A Filipina officemate and I decided to take lunch in Al Wahda Mall last week with the intention of bookhopping in Magrudy’s (at least my intention, with the motive of influencing her to revive her being a bookworm. I unobviously toured her to the Freakonomics section and per my ’salestalk’ she got The 48 Laws of Power, I so loved that one. With a reminder that, “hmm, you should read The Art of War after that, and please get the one authored by Sun Tzu and not by Greene!”. Incidentally, I was torn between two books and after deep thought I bought Persepolis).
So, speaking of our lunch, we decided to go Italian and stopped at Il Forno. Its outlet in this mall is inferior to the one situated in Abu Dhabi Mall (it’s fronting a good view) because it’s in a food court. We were so hungry that we randomly ordered Alfredo for pasta and Marinara (seafood) for pizza and sodas. We had a unanimous choice for a dessert. We were not really looking at the menu, we just pointed to the crew the photo which has tempting mango cubes in it, “we want that for dessert!”
Gladly we didn’t listen to our grumbling tummies to have a couple of order of Alfredo because the serving is huge + this Marinara. How do you beat such appetite? 6 slices of pizza as an aside.

Mango Tortellini, how can I forget?
The funniest thing happened when we realized that what we ordered for dessert was actually another pasta. Ack! We were so careless. Or I must say, I’m quite disappointed with myself. Just when I thought I have long learned the right combination of food, heehee. Lesson learned: to keep my mind up even if it’s a matter of death-hunger. We actually discussed, “ayan kase turo lang tayo ng turo ng pictures, tamad magbasa!” The word “tortellini” was too obvious to miss. And because of too much analyses, we even had the nerve to say, “but we said we want that mango for dessert”, “the crew should have warned us that’s not a dessert”, ‘they should not have situated mango tortellini’s photo beside the black forest cake!” , blah, blah.
Heehee, one of my misadventures. By the way, mango tortellini is a must-try. The calamares-like pieces have spinach in it and the bits of mangoes perfectly blended the taste.
Any food misadventure that you had?
Il Forno Italian Restaurant is at the 2nd level of Al Wahda Mall and 3rd level of Abu Dhabi Mall

Hmm…tortellini, when i was studying in italia, my flatmates and i used to buy those in bulk with different stuffings, and all we do is boil them and pour some ready made sauce. very easy =) but speaking of food misadventures, i know i’ve made mistakes ordering too much in the past, but i just can’t remember one particular story right now…phew. talking about becoming senile.

I realized we could have just ordered the tortellini and eliminated the alfredo. I definitely learned my lesson.

That looks absolutely gorgeous. I love pizza marinara too! It’s my absolute favourite. I can’t think of any food misadventures, but have you tried these out. Trust me, it’s delish:
- French fries and vanilla ice cream
- cool boiled cabbage and hp brown sauce - my comfort food!
