I expressed in two previous posts my big wish to attend the reunion concert of Eraserheads. Since I am miles away from the Philippines, I just stay tuned to my plurk buddies’ updates. I thank Azrael for plurking via SMS to give us updates from the happenings at the entrance, countdown before the opening song Alapaap, songs rendered after the other, etc. Until he plurked that there was a 20-minute break before the second set. However, the break was prolonged to 40 minutes. After which, Lali (his sister) issued a statement:
“We regret to inform you that we have to cut the concert short. My brother had to be rushed to hospital because of emotional and physical stress he is experiencing.”

I’m such a fan, okay? You could just imagine my reaction. Just as when mentioned in the plurks that Ely seemed to be not in a good condition, someone did assist him in getting up the guitar, etc. Aside from his physical limits, it must have been so difficult to sing before a crowd in a banging concert since his mom just passed away on 28th of August.
“He had a slight attack because of stress due to the recent passing of his mother, and their sound check which lasted till 3 a.m. today (Saturday),” said officials from MTV Philippines, who added that Buendia is now in stable condition. MTV Philippines is the concert’s organizer.
It was reported that he is now in a stable condition. Here’s a video of the opening of the reunion concert, you’ll see and feel the excitement of the concert goers before the countdown:
It was indeed a bittersweet reunion concert. It all begun with Alapaap and ended in the 15th song, Lightyears from the album Fruit Cake. The song is meaningful as ever.
Cause time slips and slides
Into another place and try
As we might to understand each other
Doesn’t really matter where you are
It always seems so far
Coz you’re lightyears away
You’re lightyears away
From me
Here’s Ely in a better shape when he performed in Sydney in June 2008. Alapaap was his first song also:
Check out this nice tabblo. Moments really captured.

Pardon my ignorance because I haven’t been following the Eraserheads closely but what is Ely Buendia’s medical condition exactly? Last I heard was that he had a heart condition years ago. Is it getting worse?

No, it’s not. He was just too stressed because of his mom passed away few days before the concert.
He really values his supporters. He gave his best even if he was feeling sickly na pala. Thanks for visiting.
The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak…
Just for one night, Nica.
I was in college nung kasikatan nila. They also appeal pala to your generation, heehee.
That’s right. I associated each song in every possible means heehee.
I remember when they performed for the Ms. Universe candidates. That time it was hosted by the Philippines. Nakakatuwang panoorin sina Ely na nakabarong sila.
