Some catchy titles. Which one did you like best?
I wrote here how I thoroughly enjoyed the international book fair last year. If I happened to be not miles away, I’d surely be spending at least a day in this fair. This is widely attended by all sorts. I remember there were those who even went down from North to the Trade Center just to check the exhibit. At the entrance, they said that it’s always during the book fair that they make good finds and find what they really want.
Although some regular attendees claimed that the international book fair is not consistently outstanding (it depends on the exhibitors), I’d say it’s generally an overwhelming experience for the book lovers. Like in my case, it was my first time to attend then. It’s my fault that I didn’t make a list of what I really want. I went there on a whatever-I-want-depends-on-the-budget basis. Or should I say, I intentionally didn’t bring much cash and left my credit cards? It’s taking precaution, or else, I would be buying much, really much.
Expect a big slash in prices. And I’m seriously expecting that they will offer a big deal for the Twilight series in this year’s fair, like what they did for Harry Potter in 2007. Since copies of New Moon and Eclipse are relatively out of stock in the Philippines, I am sure a lot of Twilighters are putting big hopes to find it there.
I wanted to buy so many, my eyes so wide awake hopping from one booth to another. I suggest you go to Fully Booked and your other targets/stations straight. There are just too many choices. It’s better to set your priorities. At the end of the day, I ended up buying The Secret (which was slashed by almost 50%), this precious book Credit Suisse Guide (PhP50, beat that!), and a Hepburn biography (PhP10, how can I forget?). Those were my rare finds. I felt triumphant to find the Credit Suisse Guide, I could hardly believe. I actually thought that was for PhP500 and still I was willing to take it. It was really PhP50. How did I find it? I totally forgot from which booth, it was like I digged from the unknown.
In this year’s international book fair, there will be 300 exhibitors from all over the Philippines and the world. With the theme Words Without Borders, it will celebrate the power of literature to cross the boundaries of time, place, and culture. MIBF showcases the largest and most varied collection of literature, textbooks, educational supplements, general references, religious and inspirational titles, self-help books, management books, Filipiniana, coffee table books, popular novels, children’s books, art books, graphic novels, rare and hard-to-find titles, magazines, audio and e-books, multimedia, teaching supplies and services, publishers’ technology, and travel materials.
Book fair will run from September 12 to 16, 2008 in SMX Convention Center. Visit www.manilabookfair.com for more details.

Oh, I love book fairs! I haven’t been to one in ages.
Hrm, the secret? I have heard of it, but I don’t think it’s my type of book. My mom bought it and went on and on about it. I have some strong views on it, especially the way they falsely use science to justify their teachings.

i already read “why men don’t listen and women can’t read maps”. nakakatawa sya kasi mapapaisip ka na totoo nga yung mga comparison between men vs women.
i’m still thinking going to this book fair. ang layo kasi eh hehe ;P

Oh wow! I’m getting excited. Will make sure my kids and I troop down to MOA for the Book Fair.
Thanks for the tips. Will remember: set my priorities; bring enough (just enough) cash and 1 credit card; make a list.
Hope to bump into you there.
Yup, like dyanie, malayp siya sa amin, hehhee, but it sure a must-go-to place if i were only near.
Happy weekend!
Hi there! I like the layout of your blog. I would love to have the same one for another blog I am planning.
By the way, are you from GenSan? Or somewhere in Soccsksargen?
Just curious.
Daghang salamat! Ayo-ayo diha sa UAE.
Thanks. This theme has other colors and you may check other themes, too, from the same maker. You may check it from the link in my footer.
No, I’m from Luzon. Laguna, in particular. But I’ve been to Gensan and some part of Mindanao years ago.
i’ve never been in a bookfair ever. it sounds so delicious to me!
i must say you got great bargains with your purchases last year, i’m a big hepburn fan.
I’m sure it would have been nice to attend a bookfair, and to get so much for so little money? that would have been awesome! We don’t have that here (or maybe I just haven’t heard of any yet, maybe I should ask around).
I had a great time last year. Since that was my first time to have attended an international book fair. The purchasing power is so strong during the fair.
You would see almost everyone carrying at least 3 bags of purchases. Except for me that day.
hi, just want to ask…is there an entrance fee? thanks
Hi Wesley, I saw some photo coverage from some bloggers. Entrance is PhP10. Thanks for visiting.
o wow so cool!

Do they have international book fairs in Japan?
I wasn’t too impressed by it this year =(
Although I did get some good buys from National!
I thought so based on the photos I checked from few sites.
Which ones did you get?
Hey everyone! PROSEC Speedreading is joining this year’s Manila Int’l Book Fair
Those of you who’d like to add another great skill in their skill sets and who’d really like to finish reading books in only one sitting, this is the program for you! You may contact 671-2342 or 0908-8847323 for more details. See you all!
I heard that the “Why Men..” titles are bestsellers in some countries. But I’ve never bought one. Book fairs would always be appealing to us, book lovers.
The site is still down. Probably it exceeded its bandwidth, too many people accessing it for more details. So untimely, somebody must be checking. Hope you can catch this!
I guessed so. I’m thinking if they also hold like one here in UAE. I would definitely be not absent.
It all ends up to keeping positivity. People tend to find things more reliable when the science part comes in. I find it like a little refined version of “The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari”.
I read from somewhere that the book is a bestseller in some part of the globe. I only happened to read “He’s just not that into you” many years back and I definitely liked it. So practical biting realities.
Hi Imom, thanks for visiting. I hope to bump into you also, but I’m miles away.
Your kids will love it there. There’s enough space for them to sit on comfortably. I suggest you check the schedules relevant for kids, too. Last year they did story telling series. It was Tin Tin Bersola-Babao doing it then. I think Maricel Laxa-Pangilinan also since she was launching a book that time.
Yep, you’re too far. Enjoy the weekend, too!
You gotta try one! Digging great bargains is such a challenge during the fair. Cause there were too many choices. Everything is almost beyond your reach. I like Hepburn. I have her films here long overdue to be watched.
