I miss days like these.
So yes, finally I had a long weekend. Thanks to Eid. Some of my office pals went out of town/country, while I didn’t. I drafted some flexible plans confined within Abu Dhabi and Dubai. What did I do? Let’s check if your guess was right and if my plans turned out as intended. This was the picture of my world lately. Without telling the unnecessary (and necessary) details.
Sunday, September 28
I joined the company-held Iftar (evening meal to break the fast) at Sheraton. As I wrote here, I did an appetizer trip.
Monday, September 29
Early in the morning at the elevator, I bumped to the person who arranged the Iftar. Asked me, “Hi! How’s the food last night?” What to do but be polite, “Great!”, I said. Showbiz.
I sensed majority was in a vacation mode. Expecting for the announcement of Eid. A friend from the Philippines and I were email-chatting. I mentioned about Twilight. After few minutes, she was out of the office (which I didn’t know, I thought something came up that she replied late). She said she needed to leave work for a while to find Twilight copy. Haha. Stephenie Meyer, you should give me a commission for the sales talk. Well, seriously, you should really grab a copy. The next day, she went out again and purchased the remaining three books. I’m such a good influence, no? Now she’s almost finished with Book 3. (Update: She’s now with the last book. And she tells me she wants to meet a vampire. Sounds familiar, eh? Remember my “Wolf with me friends” entry?)
Monday night, I was refreshing Gulf News to check the much-awaited announcement. The moon was sighted. So, Ramadan was over. That meant we will have a long weekend starting Tuesday. I had a sound sleep. Knowing it’s a sweet off.
Tuesday, September 30
I ignored my 5am usual waking up (the alarm disturbed my zzzzzzz). I was up at 830am instead. I’ve got missed calls and SMS. I was confident those were not from the office. Some of my office pals were confirming if Ramadan is over. I replied though it was late to be a good news, “Sorry, I just saw your SMS/missed call…”
Bathed, etc. Attended a post-birthday celebration. Bountiful lunch.
After the pigging out, I didn’t know which to enjoy first. Books, movies, food, ?, ?, ?. I’ve decided to do housekeeping first. For all I know, time flies so fast (it got wings!). Better do the ones which I might probably get lazy to do in the end.
One of my closest friends based in the Philippines (and a fellow Twilighter!) and I discussed about work/ common friend in current work and of course Twilight talk. I super enjoyed! (We’ve got a lot in common, Bee Gees, Eraserheads, Twilight, etc.) We exchanged Twilight links. Brainstorming. Incidentally, we are now members of Twilight Coven (Philippine Chapter). Haha. Sige na, pagbigyan nyo na kame. =)
Catched up on movies. Over the net, watched one Tagalog flick and a couple of Korean films. Worth the watch.
Wednesday, October 1
Planner says I should be off to Dubai. Was awaken at 8am by an overseas call from a friend. Talked for almost an hour. Overseas friend is coming here in January. Deferred my Desert Safari get away. Might as well do that when both of us are first-timers.
Stayed at home. Catched up on news over the net. About everything. Chatted with my closest cousin. She was babbling about the Twilight trailer and now excited to see the film. I reminded that it’s better to read Book 1 first. I’d be home in December and I’ll bring the 4 books (Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse, Breaking Dawn). Told the people back home not to buy the series anymore. But Twilight will be shown in November 21 so I don’t think they can wait for me. I okayed her intended book 1 purchase. I am confident no one will lend her any of the collection. (Hi Twilighters! Will you lend your copy? Me, at this point, I won’t. Still hugging them.)

Thursday, October 2
Early in the morning, I got an SMS from the same cousin. December is too far. She has downloaded free e-book of Twilight series. Good, good. I asked her to email me the set. Of course, I also want the soft copy. I will rename the files and browse my fave chapters (yay! Tent scene) in case I’m sleepy at work. Ssssh, don’t tell. Am I giving you the idea? I am such a good influence. =)
Finally, I went out. Had lunch at The Noodle House. Heavy. (I’ll make a separate entry for that). Had espresso, needed some energy for the next activity. We had bowling. Much fun. I only had 4 strikes though.
At night, I thought I’d sleep early because bowling tired me. I thought. Just to put me to sleep, I continued reading The Chocolate Run…
Friday, October 3
…. I didn’t know it was 5am already. Finished The Chocolate Run. I realized I have finally “moved on”. I think that’s good news. Did you know that after reading Twilight series, I cannot get over it? I’ve tried reading different books. Always, in the first 2 pages I got bored. So, I re-read the four books. Twice. Twilightaholic. Emma was a “rebound” read for me. I just had to finish it for The Jane Austen Book Club. [Sorry Emma, not your fault. It’s just that Twilight is like a big teenage crush that I hardly (am not yet) over with when I met you].
So, I would say The Chocolate Run had me. My Twilight fever has subsided. Now in a manageable level. But it doesn’t mean that I’ll never think or talk about that again. My Twilight addiction will always be there. Like a first love. It dies, but is never forgotten.
Went out again in the afternoon. Random things + I dropped by at my favorite bookstore to follow up “The Host”. Said it’s coming this weekend. I ordered another book by Dorothy Koomson (author of The Chocolate Run). Seemed like impressed, huh. Ordered her book which was # 2 on The Times Bestseller List in 2006. While I was at the cashier, I held “The World is Flat”. I was itching to buy it. I didn’t. I still have a “A New Earth” to juggle plus the other readables.
Watched movies again. Housekeeping, etc.
Saturday, October 4
I’m afraid. Afraid that Sunday will come soon. Meaning, I would need to go back to reality. In preparation for going back to the future, I started reading The Black Swan. I need to have some very serious read. I’m now in Chapter 2 and gladly I’m enjoying its quirkiness despite being serious.
Planner says I should go to the salon to at least have a trim and also get facials. I’m so lazy to go out. I think I won’t die, anyway, if I won’t do the vanity routine. Instead, I did random things at home.
Sunday, October 5
I’m back to reality (work). Had chic talk with an Arab friend. She showed me her newly colored hair and henna tattoos on hand and feet. That’s bizarrely pretty. She asked me what’s new with me. I wanted to tell her plenty of things that I did. But I guess that’s not her cup of tea. Instead, I declared, “I think I gained weight. And I noticed some growing whiteheads in my forehead”. And well, as I wrote yesterday, I’ve done something loopy.
It feels good to just be home. It was a well-savored break.
I wish I could tell everything. But I am aware that this is not a diary. And I no longer keep a teen-like diary. =)

I think you had a wonderful break, and thanks for sharing how you spent your holidays. We’re going to have a three-day weekend coming, so I am looking forward to it. Well, it’s candy season out here. We have Halloween coming and the stores are loaded with candies. I can’t fight the temptation any longer.

Jo, nice post, i have often asked myself when will I ever meet a real vampire. just like you, i haven’t totally gotten over it myself. Edward is a guy I may want to keep for myself. And yes, I may fall in love again, with a vampire this time, the scenes just keep coming. I enjoyed your post kahapon, twas funny, it was very considerate of you to do another week of fasting. And the trip to another country next year will surely be a big hit for you! Save, save for the next year! And yes please, count me in on the Twilight Vampire Group - Philippines Coven…

hmmm, what a chronicle! and what a break!
You got me curious about Twilight. I browsed it a bit last time i went to Nat’l Bookstore but dropped it before my impulse to buy got the better of me. I think I’m gonna go back there and give in! On second thought, I should probably wait until i turn in all my requirements for this semester… grrrrr!!! hehe

Twilight saga IS addictive. I bet you’ll finish the 4 books in less than a week. Go through all your semester’s requirements first. Better to be bitten by Twilight virus when there’s no much pending tasks.

Never had a tattoo in my entire life. It would be interesting to have a temporary one.
