November promises

by witsandnuts on November 3, 2008

With less than 60 tempting days to come, I aim:

(a) Not to buy any pair of shoes for myself. My last shoe indulgence for this year should stop with this one. I already know why, but sometimes I can’t help to ask (again) why there’s an imeldific* factor in each woman (remember the book title Why men don’t have a clue and women need more shoes?); SUCCEEDED

(b) Not to buy another bag for myself until middle of 2009 (my latest purchase was on 31st of October). I’ve accumulated so many bags since I came here (excluding the bags that I left home). I am sending home some together with my other stuff in the last week of this month through air cargo. I don’t want any excess baggage in my December trip; FAILED

(c) Not to buy another book unless I’ve read my pending readables (The Black Swan, Special Topics in Calamity Physics, The Emperor’s Children, A New Earth, Parting the Curtains, Persepolis, Sundays at Tiffany’s, How to Get From Where You Are to Where You Want to Be). It means if I’m done with all these, I can buy a new book before the year ends. I think that’s impossible; FAILED

(d) To buy at most two audio CDs until the end of 2008. These must be Eraserheads Live Concert CD, already available in Odyssey (I can’t wait to be home!) and Twilight Soundtrack; DONE

(e) To get done with my review of six books (four from Twilight Saga, The Chocolate Run and My Best Friend’s Girl); PARTIALLY DONE

(f) To announce the contest mechanics for the Jane Austen Book Club by last week of this month; DONE

(g) To organize my files, manual and electronic, by first week of December; and – DONE

(h) To eat HEALTHILY. This will include eating chocolates only on weekends (I eat chocos as in everyday, it’s my battery), not to eat pork until I’m already in the Philippines, eat more fruits and vegetables, etc. FAILED. CONTINUOUSLY TRYING

I am generally good at keeping promises but the above points are my probable fails. So, I am doing a self-challenge. Let’s see how I’ll do.

*(adjective) Ostentatiously extravagant to the point of vulgarity (from Imelda Marcos, shoe collector extraordinaire).

I can totally relate with your letter b! I think I had enough when I went to Europe.

I think I’m going to have to write a similar list of promises :) Especially one saying, don’t shop at etsy unless it’s for a christmas / birthday gift. And not a christmas / birthday gift for me.

Okies, I will have to write a list like this too, including my list of what to only buys for the 2009!

i think we all need a list like this. on A – that is so true, i’ve been a homebud when i gave birth to my 2nd child. so, minsan ko lang magamit ang mga tsinelas at sapatos. one time, we went to med city. had some coffee before heading home. when i got up – gosh! tanggal ang suwelas! buti na lang i have a spare sa auto.when i checked the others – gah… nagtuklapan na! so i swore never to buy any unless a pair gets damaged. kalokah! to think, minsan ko lang nagamit yung mga yun!

the easiest part of list-writing is the act of writing itself realizing the list is the hardest thing to faithfully follow… hmm, whats my must to do list? (i owe this to myself) thanks for the implicit reminder!

good list! i need to do one for me. i have so many things going – all the same time, so a list should be helpful.

Good luck with this list. I’m sure with a little self discipline you can achieve each one. Take care.

ang early naman ng new year’s resolution mo! tee hee! but I feel you, I’ve been buying knick-knacks the couple of months too it’s time to put a stop to it. sometimes it helps to buy stocks whenever i feel like I JUST HAVE TO BUY SOMETHING NOW. at least they end up in my investment portfolio and not the trash after a couple of years :-)

i too have promises like that (like not buying shoes and bags), it’s hard especially when some stuff are on sale but i try to stretch my “patience” for as long as i can.

Shucks! Oo nga noh. Huhu, mid of next year pa ko bibili uli. Don’t wanna break my promise. But let me know once you’re decided na sa design. At least I’ll have half a year to think about my design. :)

I’m not surprised about the Esty resolution. :) As I read your blog, I observed that you frequent that site. I’ve checked your Etsy shoppe, it’s cool! I’m looking forward to see more items (and probably do a purchase!). :)

Have fun in preparing your list. :)

I think also had an almost similar experience. I had pairs that I got from a sale and it didn’t work well. :(

Glad that this post reminded you to revisit your buys as well. :) And yes, it’s true that only the act of writing/ preparing the list is the easiest part. Hope I’m disciplined enough to fulfill majority of these.

I read your most recent entry! Gawd, you’re busy as a bee. Definitely busier than us. Have fun in listing!

Discipline, heehee. Take care, too!

I don’t really prepare new year resolutions. I don’t consider this as such. ;) Just that I reached the point that I need to impose self-challenge especially for the remaining months of 2008. I’ve been buying so many books, shoes, and bags. And course, control on the other stuff. Heehee. I’d be happy to find out in January that I’ve remained true to majority of these promises. :)
