lola maria's buffet

During my whirlwind vacation, I stayed in Legend Villas a couple of times. It was more of a personal choice. (By the way, this is not a paid post.) There’s something about it that makes me feel at home while metropolis is at its busiest. I think it’s primarily because I resided near that area before I left Philippines. Plus the other nostalgic considerations, i.e. proximity to my favorite establishments, lakwatsa, etc. And to top it all, I heart Lola Maria Coffee Shop.

non moving items
(The so-called extension shelf)

My November promises included not buying another book unless my pending reads are all consumed. As expected, I failed. Over the weekend, I regrouped my books and did put an extension shelf to accommodate the new ones. I placed on the extension the non-moving items (I’ll start to sound like doing an inventory), which categorize those that I’ve finished reading and/or those I’ve long started but don’t feel flipping through them at the moment. The reading choice is normally non-traditional. We cannot simply read ala FIFO (first in, first out) or LIFO (last in, first out). Last year I noticed that I’ve been doing LIFO, that’s reading the most recent buy. And I think that’s not a good practice. So I might as well try to balance my picks.

If I’m there,

(a) I’d be attending this year’s Panagbenga. It must be special since Baguio City is celebrating its centennial year. It’s been three years since I’ve experienced one. I miss Session Road, I miss the pizza house near RCBC (no, not Shakey’s), I miss biking, I miss chilling, I miss strawberry pastillas, I miss checking the ukays without buying anything, I miss Good Shepherd’s Ube. And a lot more.

(b) I’ll definitely watch the Final Set concert of Eraserheads next month. I finally got a CD of their August 30 concert last December. I still feel goosebumps whenever I listen to the opening song Alapaap. I’ll just have to wait for the concert CD/DVD (again). This reminds me that I need to ask a friend who’s coming here next month to get a DVD of August 30 concert (released weeks after I went back here) + other stuff, as pasalubong to me. ;)

How funny, Ely with his current band Pupil went to Dubai on December 5 last year. They performed in Rakrakan with The Dawn and other bands. I was never interested. I thought I don’t just want a slice of cake, I want the whole cake.

After New Year, as I was switching channels I saw Ely in Sharon. I don’t watch Sharon but I did that day. Ely sung (with Pupil) Disconnection Notice. They’re good. Aah, I should have gone to Rakrakan.

(c) I’ll probably join the Ultimate Brothers’ Batanes Tour next month. I wish the same tour will be held again to coincide with my next vacation.

December 2008 Exotik Restaurant

My vacation wouldn’t be complete without visiting our old favorite (and named as the cleanest) restaurant in Laguna. In that one foggy afternoon, my aunts, uncle and I feasted on some not so exotic dishes (except for fried frogs) because they were not really there to try the eel, rabbits, and the like, but to check on what’s new with the landscape + they love to scrutinize the food’s taste. My family cooks well, except me. Again I’d say, I am fonder of eating than cooking.
