Beyond halo halo

halo halo

I think we/I overate last night that I thought my tummy was going to explode. I was confident that I mastered the art of eating when I had a five-hour lunch in Bale Dutung during the Ultimate Kapampangan Tour last December. Maybe I was too regaled by (unintentional) eavesdropping to diners analysis of sex videos of you know who, that I forgot the techniques of gluttony. Kidding. Diners were so at home exchanging views about this issue. I felt like a minority because aside from that I was only thinking that it is a bad time for Atty. Adel Tamano to be associated with the lady wellness consultant, I have no much personal concerns. But I suddenly remembered Vicky Belo’s charming sisters who became my buddies during a tour. Moreso, my mind was flying to Farm Town. I only got to play a few minutes during the weekend.

halo halo chowking

Chowking in Abu Dhabi is alone in this area that it is now tantamount to being UAE’s Max’s. I have not visited Chowking when I vacationed several months ago. Hence, I have no idea if kare kare, sinigang na hipon and seafood platter are really part of their menu or just here. We also had their traditional chicken supreme (best to settle with this when you are craving for Jollibee’s chickenjoy), and of course halo halo for dessert. I do not know if it is just me, but I find Chowking’s halo halo not too beautiful. It is attractive on top, but after that it no longer makes sense. You probably figured out that I only ate the toppings. Or maybe, I am just too loyal to Razon’s of Guagua halo halo. It is served simply but more beautiful all throughout. It is the best halo halo ever.

i’d take any halo-halo at any time these days. i’m even craving for the halo-halo from the vendor in front of our school, where my brothers and i enjoyed many a bowl when we were in grade school. it was dripped with pink food coloring from a “tanduay” bottle, and the “manang” scrapes the ice from a big ice block, while we wait anxiously. i can still hear the sound of it now. ^-^

ako, i love halo-halo talaga! no choice lang ako kasi chowking lang ang meron dito. so kahit i don;t eat half of their toppings, go pa rin!

    I sooo love the colors.

And yes, I sooo agree with your observations regarding Chowking’s halo-halo.

The best halo-halo for me is that of Agora Market in San Juan. Heavenly.

i’m not very fond of Chowking halo-halo either. napurga lang ako ng Chowking halo-halo when i spent a 6-day vacation in Puerto Princesa last year, and my friend wanted to eat halo-halo every afternoon. i prefer Razon’s kahit di ganon kadami ang ingredients, mas masarap. i don’t know if there’s still Digman at the malls…masarap din na halo-halo yon. my friend in Dubai told me that Chowking in UAE is different from our Chowking here…pati ang menu. Kare-kare, sinigang na hipon and seafood platter are not in their menu here. Personally, i don’t like Chowking…i’d choose Henlin over Chowking.

agree ako, di kasarapan ang halo2 nila. pero pwede na ring pagtiyagaan. actually, isa yan sa pinaglihian ko kay chiko. :D

so far, sa natikman ko, aside from razon’s halo-halo, masarap din ang halo-halo sa milky way.

Ah Razon’s Halo-halo. I’ve had that once and I thought I wouldn’t like it because it was missing many usual ingredients, but it was surprisingly good. Chowking halo-halos in comparison seem like some big bowl of tasteless chunks of ice.

I’m not a fan of halo halo because there are some ingredients in that dessert which I don’t eat like ube, langka and kaong. hehe

I love halo halo. It doesn’t really matter if it has all the works, as long as there’s shaved ice, milk, and even one or two ingredients, I’m a happy camper. Of course given the choice I’d prefer to have all the wonderful toppings. I mean who wouldn’t :)

  14. dyanie says: May 30, 20098:51 am

i like razons halo halo too kahit na ilang sahog lang sya. chowking is ok too kaso ang daming yelo tapos ang konti ng sahog!

I remember having something prepared like that when I was 6 years old or so, it’s called “isnobol” (ice snow ball).

  18. witsandnuts says: May 28, 200911:17 am

Hindi ako gano mahilig sa halo halo. Pero pag yung sa Razon’s, pwede akong 2 glasses in one-sitting.

  19. witsandnuts says: May 28, 200911:21 am

Haha, natawa ko dun sa nagpapanggap na halo halo. Last year kumain ako sa isang Filipino Restaurant dito. Naexcite ako nung nag order ako ng halo halo. Only to get disappointed when it was served. Waste of money.

In case I’d be in San Juan, I’ll try to look for that halo halo that you mentioned.

  20. witsandnuts says: May 28, 200911:22 am

You know what? Until now inuubo pa ko dahil sa pagkain ng halo halo na yan. Haha.

  21. witsandnuts says: May 28, 200911:23 am

Important ingredient sakin ang macapuno. Hay, bigla akong natakam.

  22. witsandnuts says: May 28, 200911:25 am

Summer is approaching in this part of the world. Soon. But even so, I won’t be hooked with Chowking’s Halo halo. Sana may Razon’s dito. Haha, big wish!

  23. witsandnuts says: May 28, 200911:26 am

Because of that order of preference, I remember the halo halo from Tiwi, Albay. Masarap din yun.

  24. witsandnuts says: May 28, 200911:28 am

I just realized I never tried Chowking’s siopao in the Philippines. I liked the asado one from 711.

  25. witsandnuts says: May 28, 200911:29 am

‘m a regular of Henlin (in RCBC Plaza). Ack, parang gusto ko ng siomai ngayon.

  26. witsandnuts says: May 28, 200911:31 am

I never dined in Milky way yet. Try ko nga yan next time. =)

  27. witsandnuts says: May 28, 200911:33 am

I think Chowking needs to improve its halo halo/mix. But maybe they’re doing that, for so long now.

  28. witsandnuts says: May 28, 200911:34 am

I like ube and langka naman. Pero kaong, I don’t touch it.

  29. witsandnuts says: May 28, 200911:36 am

I remember my relatives in the province, when we were still kids my aunts would prepare ice scrapes then put beans, ube and macapuno. Solved na kame dun.
