This wine glass which is taller than my bag serves as my chocolate holder in the office. This frequently hibernates though. Only in my blog I willingly show my fondness for sweets.
What about you? What’s your yummy buddy?
Just as I went on with my usual weekend path, I noticed the flowers that thrive in this part of the world all year round. I decided to take few snaps just to let you know that there are actually flowers in the desert.
I remember some of the reactions in my earlier posts that they never imagined that UAE is (can be) beautiful. Don’t worry, I had the same perception before coming here.
These flowers are normally intercropped (planted together) near the offices.
I don’t know though how they’re called. If you asked me when I was still in highschool, I could probably respond right away with scientific names provided. No kidding. Biology was one of my favorite subjects then aside from Chemistry. Ack, did I actually say Chemistry? It turned out I’m in an unrelated field.
Talking about scientific names, I had an unforgettable-even-if-I-want-to-forget experience about them. In one of our assessments, I was confident that I provided correctly the scientific names for all 100 items. Only to find out that I’m bokya (zero score). My late grandmother who patiently waits for my quizzes’ results wondered what went wrong. “I forgot to underline each scientific word.” That’s my biggest biology sin. I cried hard because of that. Haha. Until our reunion in 2006, some of my classmates still remember that. Pero ngayon tinatawanan ko na lang sya. Since then, I learned to become more technically careful.
Have a great week. Just laugh out your worries.
For the May-June Creative Swap, I crocheted an iPhone/iPod/iTouch jacket (or any other purpose as long as it will fit in) for my swap partner. The body comes in purple, contrasted by a baby pink. The crocheted flower and letter C (first letter of the recipient’s nick) were patched in using a camouflage thread.
I also sent her a postcard showing the primary areas in Abu Dhabi, chocolate dates with almond (the packaging comes ala Hershey’s kisses), bookmarks and cooking stickers.
I remembered that we have the same birth month, hence, I also included in the package a posh crossword puzzle (ala Moleskine) and a shirt which has a print of “Someone who loves me very much went to Dubai* and got me this shirt” as advanced birthday presents.
*Incidentally, there’s no available tee of her size which has an Abu Dhabi print
Please join us in the next round of Creative Swap. You may check the details here or send an email to gandarynako (at) yahoo (dot) com to know more.

We are using biometrics in my previous and current offices. Two glaring points:
(a) The hand sanitizer that go hand in hand with the implementation. Messy fingers are not welcome.
(b) One employee is not happy with this entry system. Believe it or not, he has no fingerprints.
