Have you gone fishing?
The jogging area, which is currently one of my favorite spots in this part of the Emirate, actually has a twin. I like these paths in Corniche because these revitalize me. It’s like almost a perfect place to breathe in and out, scream, “soulsearch”, and whatever you want as long as it’s decent. 
Although this side is not restricted to the joggers, I noticed that mostly people who intend to go on fishing frequent the area. I have never gone fishing yet, except for the few childhood memories of one of our neighbors in the province who used to catch fish by using electricity (nangunguryente ng isda) or those playmates that used worms as bait. Or if it may qualify as fishing, I used to catch tiny fish and even tadpoles using my hands from a river when I was young. Then my playmates and I would kill and fry them (huhu, forgive me, I’m still short of wisdom that time) and will use in our lutu-lutuan.
In that particular day, I noticed they used sardines, err raw mackerel, baby shrimps and/or intestines as bait.
Both young and old were fishing. Of course, it’s not conclusive that the amount of catch will be directly proportional to the biological age of the fishermen. It’s more of a familiarity and strategy thing. Although logically the early birds will catch more worms and/or the old ones figuratively are more experienced in executing diskarte.
These kids (Well, they are probably highschool students. It’s funny how I find it so normal now to call them kids. I must really be a grown up now. Heehee.) came earlier than the others yet they only have one tiny catch, so far. They were strategically situated and fully equipped.
“We’ve been fishing for an hour and we’ve got 1 fish!”, there was no trace of bitterness. Obviously, this thing is exploratory for them.
At first glance, I thought all the tiny stuff down there are sea urchins.
But to the other side are actually crabs.
And they were crawling.
We got to chat with one Filipino and a British who were also fishing. The Filipino who is in his early 50s told us that he enjoys fishing because he finds it therapeutic. The same reason to the non-Filipino. Wow, maybe it’s that therapeutic the way blogging does to me. I just wish that there are fishing paraphernalia for rent, so we would probably try. I don’t think I’d do this regularly so I don’t want to spend on the gears. Let’s see.
So who did catch the most number of fish? The wiser ones. (I didn’t say the old ones). But look at how (generally) the Filipino differed from the rest?

… here comes reusing the grocery plastic bag.

seriously, i would love to try it too (our friends have been prodding us), according to them the experience is relaxing.

When I was still working in the Maldives, I did try fishing. We rode a dhoni (local boat) and went into the middle of the ocean and fish there. I did not enjoy it much because I got seasick! But I did catch a big snapper =)
oh wow i think i would like to eat fish that i caught myself! but i’ve never tried it because i think i might fall asleep while waiting for a bite and i’ll fall off the water LOL
I have never gone fishing before although I have fond memories of collecting clams in Abu Dhabi before when we visit my mom in law it was so much fun, we even collect more clams than we could ever consume and end up giving them away haha.

gusto ko rin magfishing. hindi ko pa naranasan yan kahit noong kabataan. maybe mga early 50s rin ako.
Never again! I did it once two years ago and I almost died of boredom.
Pareho din pala dito sa Corniche sa Alkhobar. During my Friday jog, I always converse with kabayans who are fishing. Paano kasi ang feeling ko, bore na bore na sila. O baka naman fishing heals them kahit pa nga boring ang dating sa akin…
wow! i tried it once but it seems that i dont have the hands to do it. hehehe… but with a great view like that… i might go.

in fairness ha, they did catch a couple of fish! patience is a virtue talaga sa fishing. i learned that when we tried fishing sa calaruega! ayun, sa halos isang oras namin, wala man lang kaming nahuli!

i haven’t had fishing experience. takot kasi ako sa bulati na ginagawang pain. hehehe. and besides, spoiled kasi ako sa mga brothers ko kaya sila nalang nanghuhuli ng isda at ako ang tagakain. lol

i catch tadpoles too! hahaha. but i dnt fry them.
when we were kids, we used to catch fish using our hands or a small basin sa ilog. ang saya! though hindi naman talaga para kainin (kasi sobrang liit), just for fun lang. afterwards, pinakakawalan din namin.

That looks so relaxing! Too bad I can’t do that around here. Baka malason ako sa mga isda ng Pasig river.
I’ve done some fishing nung nasa probinsya pako. But I guess I cheated because I did it in a fish pond. Wala na akong nahuli, ako pa yung muntik mahuli nung may-ari ng pond.
I’m more interested in the beach. Ganda. Kung may ganyan lang na malapit dito, I’d always be there.
And cousins and I used to fish too in the rivers when we were small. I even learned how to “fish” frogs from rice fields.
nice. when i was still in pampanga, yeas, we’ve gone fishing.
the experience is so relaxing. but for first timers, it could be a good exercise of patience. you really have to wait and there’s no assurance you can catch one.
and once you have your catch, it’s really rewarding.
