like you, i used to take voting for granted. but the more i see corruption and inefficiency in our country, the more i want to exercise my right to vote. and i don’t listen anymore to people who say, don’t vote for him or her because he or she won’t win anyway, sayang boto mo. it’s that kind of mentality that got us into this mess in the first place. i’ll vote for who i want, manalo man or matalo.

I can’t remember the last time I actually voted in a Philippine election. When I was still working in Saudi Arabia, there wasn’t any absentee voting yet. My greatest hope in next year’s election is that Filipinos would be more mature politically in installing someone into office.

the last time i voted was during the time of estrada pa and i did not even voted for a president that time even for our mayor. after that, i no longer voted. hayyyy eh pano naman syang lang din ang boto ko. but i might this time kung ok yung mga tatakbo.

not too long ago, i was also mulling at the idea of NOT casting my vote on the 2010 elections. at least i could tell myself later that i DID NOT vote for that government official. most of our leaders are totally shameless. they have the gall to face the people during campaign season then we don’t see even the hint of their shadow after they’ve won a seat. so far, i’ve only seen their expensive cars around my office building (i recognized the plates). i haven’t tried going to an office of an elected official (thank God!) yet, but i heard that it’s quite difficult to see them. i literally become nauseous when i see politicians on TV frothing pro-poor advocacy. it’s just sickening!

i have never skipped an election but now, not voting looks like an option. i hope i’d witness something between now and election day to compel me to cast my vote.

congrats for moving out of inertia and sense of apathy for Philippine elections. happy for you.

i had bouts with frustrations with the government, too, and at one point, almost gave in to my friends ‘persuasion’ that voting is a futile exercises in the Philippines.

but i love this country too much for my vote not to be counted.
