If you can't buy it, cook it
One of the things that I miss in the Philippines is the immediate availability of streetfood type munchies. Since there’s no Manang here who cooks banana que, camote que and the like for retail, I even tried scouting from Filipino restaurants, I gave up and cooked my own turon (I don’t know the exact English term for this, would you like to help me? Heehee.)
Saba or any counterpart + sliced jackfruit + muscovado or brown sugar + cooking oil + spring roll sheets + frying with love, care and homesickness = yummiest turon in Abu Dhabi

Yummy! I used to go to UST to buy bananaQ and turon.
Nagutom ako!!!!
It looks appetizing. Namiss ko tuloy ang turon. Hmmm…I’ll ask my barkada that we cook turon this next Friday.
Have you tried apple turon? Masarap din sya especially with langka strips.
I don’t know what turon is in English: spring-rolled bananas?!
I can’t think of any English counterpart for Turon but I like its name as it is. Whenever I want one, I always go to Philam Food Mart in Queens,NY dahil palaging meron doon kada Sabado.
hmmmm sarap at madaming asukal pa makagawa nga tomorrow
sayang hindi ka makakauwi dito this year.
Nakakalaway yan ha. Kitang-kita yung sugar….. pigilan mo ko. kakainin ko talaga yan. joke. Buti na lang marunong kang magluto.
that’s what i’d do too..cook it. today, i got lucky. i found mango ice cream…lol. i’ll have it tonight after eating my tinola.
Banana fritters? I’m not sure what turon is in English. Whatever it is, it sure is yummy. Parang ang lutong ng lumpia wrapper. Sarap!
marunong akong gumawa at magluto nyan..he he he..ay! at saka maruya!
my lola used to make turon with monggo. some sort of a specialty and a variation of turon. sarap.
hi! ive been reading your blog for some time and i live in abu dhabi as well. do you know where we can get saging na saba?
Like you, I’ve been vainly searching for turon in the Filipino shops here in Riyadh but the ones I found tasted awful and had more wrapper than banana. So, I bought the ingredients and will be making some for our merienda tomorrow!
I love turon!
Grabe, it’s already 4am and now I’m getting hungry just by looking at your photo.
yummy turon.
i love turon! i love love it! our family loves banana. yan halos ang merienda namin!

the best nga banana-q and turon… peor minsan mas crave ko camote-q kasi we seldom cook that at home na. we cut it parang fries then deep fry in lotsa sugar!!! woooooww sarap!
Parang naimagine ko talaga yung amoy vanilla. Nakakatakam. Hehe.
The first time I heard apple turon. Masubukan nga. =) Anong apple ang ideal gamitin, yung red or green?
Kelangan in few hours sold out agad.
Gusto ko yung madaming asukal at langka hehe.
Oo nga eh. Di bale magkikita tayo next year. =)
You reminded me! Next time lalagyan ko ng ice cream on top. =)
Ganun yata talaga mas maaappreciate mo yung ibang food/bagay pag not readily available. =)
Banana fritters nga yata. =) Tagal ko ng nagcrave sa turon. Finally, happy tummy na ako. Hehe.
nakalimutan kong sabihin, you can add cinnamon too. sarap ng lasa.
Sige, lagyan ko next time. Thanks. =)
I think it’s the red apple although I think green would also be fine para may taste of sourness.
