Burj Khalifa, the tallest tower

Burj Khalifa as viewed from Dusit Thani Hotel

What not to miss while attending an annual conference in Dusit Thani Hotel?

To take photos of Burj Khalifa. From the hotel, it has a nice view of the tallest tower.

burj khalifa

I was planning to visit the observation deck (124th of the at least 160 floors) after its inauguration in January of this year. But as I was trying to shoo my fear of heights, as it was an exciting but a little chickening experience for me when I visited the Macau Tower observation deck (on the 58th floor), not too long, it was temporarily closed for maintenance and upgrade. Sigh. Next time, I will not pay much attention to my phobia anymore. It’s just that we sometimes tend to take for granted those spots that are very accessible to us. While most of the tourists actually flew miles away for these.

Did you know that the architecture of this over 800 meters tower (base of three legs) was in a way inspired by the regional desert flower, Hymenocallis?

Burj Khalifa

Since the observation deck is still closed, we would probably pay a visit to the lower levels. The (57) elevators as reported can travel at 10 meters per second. We will see if that’s true. :)

It should be earthquake proof. Otherwise, it’s too risky to go up there these days. ;)

    • witsandnuts says: March 8, 20104:50 am

I just wanted to try something new. I’ve never had a dark layout before. Changed the theme yesterday. Honestly, I am not yet used to it. :-D

love your photos, wits! Dusit Thani was thee first hotel we visited since landing in Dubai – it remains my favorite building design to this day =)

    • witsandnuts says: March 8, 201011:42 am

I agree, it has a stand out design. And location is good.

oh yeah, i have to agree with other commenters–nice layout for your blog! (i’m biased with dark template apparently).

that skyscrapper is really a statement for dubai.
but how’s the economy there? has it picked up since its recent plunged?

    • witsandnuts says: March 8, 201011:50 am

Thanks. It’s good to have tried the dark layout. :)

Economy in Dubai is getting better. In a way, due to “some assistance” from Abu Dhabi.

the tip of the building is like a needle! parang pag nahulog ka dyan, kebab ang bagsak mo! :)

    • witsandnuts says: March 8, 201012:14 pm

Ahahahaha! I was zooming the cam nga to see what’s up there. ;)

i am always fascinated with the Burj Khalifa..sayang at di pa bukas yung observation deck..altho super takot din ako sa height (hehehe).

now that i’m back in Dubai (alone and without a big belly), i really hope that i could see more of the tourist spots here. btw, i also love the structure of dusit thani here. it makes me smile everytime dinadaanan namin pauwi.

I’m sure you miss your family already. I hope the observation deck will be opened already by the time they reunite with you in Dubai.

Wow, that certainly epitomizes a skyscraper.

    • witsandnuts says: March 9, 20109:49 am

Yes, because it’s the tallest. And I think that the shape is one of a kind.

wow! sobrang taas. pero gusto ko yang puntahan at umabot dun sa pinakatuktok.

    • witsandnuts says: March 9, 20109:54 am

The observation deck is on the 124th floor. I wonder what’s on the upper levels (the tower is at least 160 floors). From afar, it looks like a needle.

why is the observation deck still closed? i would love to climb this building :) . will put on my list.

    • witsandnuts says: March 9, 20109:57 am

      The Bucket List. :)

I think the deck is still closed because of the problem in the elevators.

  12. dyanie says: March 8, 20106:42 pm

yay! eto yung sinsabi mo sa plurk! yes i agree, nice theme! :)

    • witsandnuts says: March 9, 201010:00 am

      Thanks, Dyanie.

Yes, I took some photos that same day that I plurked about it.

  13. Photo Cache says: March 8, 20109:54 pm

Love the new template. Very cool.

I’m afraid of heights too, but if I’m climbing up via an elevator it wouldn’t be any problem at all. Hope you’d make it to the top (literally and figuratively) very soon.

    • witsandnuts says: March 9, 201010:05 am

Thanks. :) I’ll just close my eyes to lessen the scare. At the end of the day, the objective is to go up there. Yun nga lang, mas maaappreciate kung eyes wide open.

  14. bursky says: March 9, 201012:22 am

being the nerd that i am, i hope that the 10m/s speed is going up. otherwise, it just means that the elevator speed indicates a free-falling object since the gravitational constant g=9.8m/s^2.

    anubayan! lol… na-possess na naman ako. :P

andaming anggulo! i like the one through the window with your food best.

    • witsandnuts says: March 9, 201010:17 am

Wow, that’s one of the unexpected and amazing (blog) comments that I received so far. ‘)

Gusto ko rin yung view ng Burj Khalifa with the food. I took that while taking lunch on the 24th floor of Dusit Thani.

New look around here! Nice. One thing I notice when riding high speed elevators on skyscrapers is how my ears pop. It’s probably worse going up the Burj Khalifa.

    • witsandnuts says: March 10, 20109:59 am

I can just imagine the popping I’ll get for this one. Yung sa Macau Tower nga sobrang sakit na sa tenga. ;)
