Election campaign in Laguna 2

(Campaign groups in Laguna, armed with the appropriate summer hat.)

The absentee voting has started on 10th of April and my list is still in progress.

The ongoing campaign for the 2010 elections in the Philippines is, so far, the best and worst alike. Since I was fetched from the airport, Joey Marquez’s posters surprised me as I reunited with the Metro Manila sunset. Wow, he is racing again to be the Mayor of Paranaque. And as we passed by the towns in Laguna, ER Ejercito’s (George Estregan III, the incumbent mayor of Pagsanjan) photos welcomed us. He is running for governor.

Philippine flag in the USB

(The Philippine flag on the flash disk. Cool, isn’t it? This pretty disk houses at least 9,000 songs. This is supplied in the two-microphone enabled videoke system.)

I have been scouting for a (sort of) magic sing in the UAE for internal consumption. I was discouraged when I learned that the song menu contains at least 20% Hindi (Indian) songs, 80% Tagalog and English songs. Hence, when I went home for a short break, I was intent to buy one which is sourced there. Strange though that the WOW Magic Sing salesman in one of the malls in Metro Manila advised me to get a Pensonic videoke instead. (Sheikh Mohammed holding his moustache.)

It is really true that some (unexpected) things are possible, just because somebody happened to be at the right place and time. I never thought that on that fateful day, I would meet the Crown Prince, Sheikh Mohammed.

Betis Church Feature Zest Air

In January of 2009, I blogged about our visit to Betis Church (otherwise known as the Sistine Chapel of the Philippines) and Bacolor Church (popularly known for being half-buried and venue of the series May Bukas Pa, before it was televised). The visit was part of the December 2008 Ultimate Kapampangan Tour organized by Ultimate Philippines.

In this year’s April issue of Zest Air’s inflight magazine, one of my Betis Church photos has been featured (appearing on the first of the three-page article).

Picnik collage

(Thanks to Tina Roxas, graphic artist of ZEST, for sending me the scanned copy.)

The Philippines is rich in historical structures and some of the plainly glorious churches are not really hidden, but are just waiting to be visited. You do not have to look too far, it has always been there to awe you.
