I was coaching two padawans (that sounds very Star wars; it means apprentice/student) last weekend on how to make cupcakes. We baked devil’s cupcakes and whipped butter frosting. Just because it is yellow, we decided to call it cupcakes for Noynoy.

(We were flipping the pages of this free teaser magazine while waiting for the 4:30 PM screening of The Karate Kid last Saturday.)
I think that it is odd that I got surprised when I learned that the third installment of the Twilight Saga, Eclipse, is going to be shown in the cinemas soon. I mean, I used to be very informed of anything Twilight related. While it is debuting on the 30th of June in most of the countries, we got the 8th of July playdate here. It is odder that I did not take it as a big deal like when I did when the first installment was shown here few days late. Really, the delay strained my patience and even pained my sleep. I even made pre-screening preparations like re-reading the book, having the ticket in advance, at a minimum. It is interesting though that there is going to be an advanced screening (which is rarely happening in the UAE) of Eclipse on 1st of July. The oddest thing was that I did not even consider that. Wow, I think I have matured a lot (*facepalm*).
Read MoreA friend asked me to cook for her as she had non-Filipino colleagues that came over to their house for dinner. Her guests requested for seafood and we thought that something that will sustain the appetite over chatters should be on the table. I am really glad that they enjoyed the hearty meal and I can just imagine when she told me that her guests devoured the buttered crabs with oyster sauce ala kamayan (eating with hands). This post is in response to her and her guests’ request for the recipe… and yes, for those who might need and want to try this. Although there is a lot of recipes available out there, this was a result of one of my kitchen experiments while in the UAE which was based on craving (and a little imagination on what might work when you combine estimates of ingredients). Fortunately, it never fails to satisfy the diners.
Read MoreI wanted to watch The Karate Kid since I saw the trailer pre-airing of Ironman 2. Unfortunately, we got a late playdate in the UAE and it debuted in the cinemas just this week. The trailer provided a glimpse to the trainings which the kid (Jaden Smith) had: on patience, endurance, courage, and perseverance. Did you know that these trainings are also available through the iPad? Amongst these, my favorite is the test or training for patience. Not that I am impatient, it is just that I never win in the other “trainings”, too soon the game is always over. I think that it is indicative of my level of patience (winks).

While there are many ways to satisfy a person’s taste buds, there goes the so-called subways. Especially if your guests are the young ones, they tend to eat with their eyes first. Since the little girl in us wanted to be one of and/or be with those Disney characters, how about making cupcakes for the princesses? I put a little twist (I love doing that) to this recipe. You will need:
1/2 cup unsalted butter
2/3 cup granulated white sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup milk
