Birds and Buddies Show

Birds and Buddies Show Jurong Bird Park

Forsaking our love for sleep is one of the challenges we face when we are on a trip. We stayed so late the preceding night that we wanted to skip the visit to Jurong Bird Park and just give the park hopper ticket (that was post-Night Safari and Singapore Zoo visit) to other tourists. But then, the previous daydreaming about feeding the lorries and fascination to “stalk” 8,000 birds (of more than 600 species) by capturing them in a snapshot outweighed the sleepiness. It is good that the park’s programme is time-conscious friendly that shows and feeding sessions happen twice daily.

We came in just in time for the Birds n Buddies Show. With this show alone I took a gazillion photos already and hardly blinked! Hence, I decided to chop the Jurong Bird Park post into two to fit the photos to a reasonable number.

(Our two feathery pals formed a cute heart-y shape.)

I initially wanted to put everything in a mosaic, but that will not do justice to these captivating creatures. They are inherently colorful that except for inking the watermark and resizing them, no other editing was necessary.

Birds n Buddies show showcases performing birds in a single act. Whether you are fond of them of not, I think that their antics will amaze you. While this green parrot is not of multi-colored nature, she (let us just presume) had everyone’s eyes when she started singing English, Chinese and Malay songs. Multi-lingual. Beat that. Re-watching the videos that we took still gives us childlike giggles.

One of the interesting chapters of some shows is whenever the audience is asked to participate. We have witnessed variety in interactions and each kind was momentous as you can see from the faces of the audience – the volunteers and those around them who were equally ecstatic. Flickering eyes, astonished heart, stunned soul.

The mascots in their colorful costumes added to the cheerfulness of the air. I am still in disbelief that we risked missing a visit to this bird park. This show was, but, a minor slice of what was in store. I am glad that we did not give in to the temptation to sleep more.

I remember during our visit to Malagos in Davao many years ago that there is a mini-bird park. But I haven’t heard of a real sanctuary.

fascinating! the last time i saw birds in one compound was when i visited the Philippine Eagle Center in Davao, pero di ganto kadami. 8,000 birds–wow!

    • witsandnuts says: September 16, 20108:38 am

I’ve been to the Philippine Eagle Center, too. That was fascinating as well. But yes, Jurong Bird Park is better because it is home to so many species. Worth the visit.

    Thank you, Wits!

btw, i tried your Dampa-Style Shrimp recipe and it was oh so good!! I will cook it for some friends over the weekend

WOW! wonderful. great shots, Ms. Jo. Hindi kaya nasaktan yung batang babae?

BTW, I still can’t comprehend the need or compulsion to “forsake sleep’ (though I have my own share of late nights, or should I say “mornight”). No matter what and how important I did, I end up beat and unhappy with only few hours of sleep.

    yours truly,
    masandal…
