diet kuno

Because it is still January, everyone seems serious to lose weight.

I was checking the photo archives from my phone and saw this one which I took last year. Always, after the New Year, I am very motivated to trim weight or at least eat healthily. But I know that it is just to psychologically compensate for all the pigging out that I did the preceding year. But come March, I would be making excuses again. And again. Until it is December already. I remember when we enrolled for a fitness program in a gym when I was still based in Makati, the consultants were saying that consistently there is an influx of enrollees during the first quarter of the year. The same way that there is a federation of ningas cogon gym-goers.

However, there is a tried and tested motivator for me. That is when I am taking part of a wedding. I remember I worked out to death in early part of 2008 for two weddings. Incidentally, I must eat healthily again to prep up for a very important occasion/celebration this year. A younger cousin (whom I have not seen for at least 8 years) is flying to the Philippines with his wife and parents to have a church wedding. Everyone back home is doing the necessary preps, except me. I need to catch up before the big day. Yes, I will be there for a week sometime in March for the wedding. Wow, another whirlwind trip for me.

I loved the movie Alvin and the Chipmunks and I already lost count as to how many times I watched it in DVD. Last Christmas, I watched it again after Santa Baby and Paris Je T’aime. That was actually a sort of a warm up for its sequel, Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel, that I watched on New Year’s day.

Find me if you can. No, I didn't see it live.

Talk about five years in the making, Burj Khalifa (formerly known as Burj Dubai), the tallest tower in the world was officially inaugurated last night. The first time I saw this up and personal was few months ago when we checked the fireworks in the dancing fountain in Dubai Mall. It is really, really gigantic that it felt like looking up to eternity from that point. I did not get to see the launching face to face though. I hoped that they would do it during a weekend that I probably might have considered going there to be one of the many spectators, with eyes bewildered, as you can see in one of the photos. (I photographed these from the pages of one of the leading broadsheets in UAE.)

Grey hairs

I have long been contemplating about getting a rocking chair or something similar because I miss ours back home. So after Christmas, I got this lovely rattan chair + the dramatic sheep skin for it from Ikea. It feels like I am in the Philippines while I am on this throne. Haha.  While comfortably sitting on it and assessing my face value (through a mirror) as to how much it depreciated or appreciated (accounting terminology to connote decrease or increase in value, respectively), seriously, I was checking my scalp and I noticed that I have 3 grey hairs. So freaky. That was how it felt to see it for the first time. ;)
