2012 Cityscape Abu Dhabi

Guggenheim Abu Dhabi in 2012 Cityscape.
(Guggenheim Abu Dhabi set to be completed in 2017)

I am glad that I was able to take a peek of Cityscape Abu Dhabi before the first day ended. Being invited/ visiting the event for the third time now let me manage the degree of my amazement with the stands. While there are stands which are shiny as new, I noticed that some chose to be practical by modifying the previous year’s models. I’m happy about the cost-effective direction of the participants. You can refer to my 2010 and 2011 Cityscape photos for comparison. This post aims to highlight the interesting finds/ pieces.

The prototypes for the Saadiyat Island (i.e. Island of Happiness) are worth noticing.

I didn’t realize that the Ikea outlet in Yas Island is cross-shaped.

I intentionally included a human in this frame to appreciate how intricate the models are considering its diminutive nature.

Cityscape Abu Dhabi

One of my favorites.

I wished I brought a macro lens. Ehem, I actually forgot to bring a proper camera. Thanks to camera phones. :)

I really liked this night frame. It seems like they are alive.

A 3D model. The color changes to blue, red, green, yellow.

But these artworks topped my choices for this year’s event. The utilization of Arabic characters in the showcase made it unique.

I wonder if the design on the chair is inspired by the same tree and if these were actually produced by the same genius pair of  hands.

The chair that is impossible to miss.

  1. Very lovely! Ang gaganda lahat. I wish there would be some kind of exhibit na ganyan din dito sa pinas, kung meron man, Ihope they get to promote it well so others may know.

  2. louvre in abu dhabi? does it mean mona lisa will be there? haha!
    these plans are gorgeous!
no wonder my mom is itching to go back there, sabi ko dito na lang sya muna sa penang, taga-alaga kay gabby :o )

  3. gusto ko yung ikea at yung white chair! haha!

parang ang sarap gumawa ng miniature models ng kung anu ano! parang totoo! dapat yung water tinotoo na nila! haha!

  4. i love looking at miniature models — esp. when they’re done well. this takes me back to my college days when we used to construct scaled models of the buildings we “designed”

  5. What an artistic exhibit. Never been to Abu Dhabi, the cityscape minis — are they all representative of existing structures already or would some still be in the making? Ang gaganda ng architecture. :)
