Craving for BonChon while in the UAE?  There’s a solution. And it goes with finding KIMCHICKIN.

I am one of those who thought that the only franchise of BonChon in the Middle East has long disappeared. I am glad that it has just been re-branded as “KimChickin”. The move isn’t surprising since its franchisee is a Korean architect, Ryan SungHaak Chung. It’s interesting to note that the business was coincidental to Chung’s unsuccessful attempt in search of a career in real estate during the time of recession in Dubai. He brought BonChon to Dubai instead.

KimChikin was derived from the following:

 kim – the most common Korean surname
kimchi – national dish of Korea
chi – means “life energy”
chicken – aims to serve the best chicken in town
kin/ keen – same family/ characterized by strength and distinctness of perception

Aside from the kimchi rice, I like the old favourite crispy chicken. The yummy deep-fried twice chicken.

Also a nice choice, the chicken wings with lemon garlic sauce.

Another Korean touch is the vibrant place, that’s through the stickies/ post-it notes on the wall and the Kpop shows in that flatscreen. The right wall (not photographed) is not for stickies though; instead it has the skyscraper of the countries with BonChon franchises. I noticed that most of their dining customers are young adults. The place isn’t that huge, indicating its targeted mode — that it has been voted as the 2010 Best Take Out Restaurant in Dubai. (I really wish there will be one in Abu Dhabi.)

It’s been a month since our visit. I wonder if my funny scribble is still there.
