(Winello, 1 year and 4 months)
It’s been so long since I wrote about one of my favorite topics in this blog – Winello and Perdita.
For first time visitors, Winello is one of my indoor cats in Abu Dhabi. Yes, he literally and figuratively has a nice heart (look at that tag), funny, reliable, more sociable to guests/ visitors and smart. He has also been a family member since May 2011.
It was all about Winello until Perdita (with the striking green tag to match her ginger coat) came in October 2011. There goes the competition — toys, attention, etc. By nature, Winello is really big being a Siamese mix and Perdita for some reasons remains a petite Persian mix.
Going back to the ‘competition’, Winello most of the time has established that he’s the alpha cat. Well, it would be embarrassing if he cannot since he’s more senior and he’s bigger. But there are times when the roles will be reversed, so furry life is fair.
So he lends his most favorite toy to Perdita. By nature, she’s more playful, funnily weird (she snores, purs like a machine when she’s so happy), humble, prefers to maintain a low profile (or to a certain extent is picky of) from the visitors.
But sometimes they’d still have that ‘face-off’. It’s a healthy phase — occasional running (yay, they need exercise), civilized cat fight and to mute them off or distract them just turn on the vacuum or do that “meows” and pretend that there’s a third cat. Cats have impressive senses and I like their being territorial, competitive and being emphatic and cognitive at the same time. I should probably write about the things I learned/ improved and continuously discover because of them.
(Perdita, 10 months)
Speaking of being territorial, Perdita has claimed the “Iron Throne” (yeah, a follower of Games of Thrones here), i.e. the piano bench. For unknown reason (yet), she seems to be more interested in music compared to Winello. While they sleep on their beds at night, it’s amazing how they developed a routine and recognized their body clock when they may/ must come in the living room and other parts of the house. We’re lucky that they don’t bite wires and all that stuff.
I’m still amazed how Perdita has grown to be a ‘fine young lady’. When she first came, she has that ‘scavenger look’. I also remember the imbalanced whiskers — the cats’ antennae, that it affected the way she walked. Like she was always making the wrong turns while driving. But after genuine nurturing, not too long she is in great shape.
Winello undeniably is still my favorite because he consistently treats me like a mother. Maybe because of that ‘hey, my master-at-first-sight factor’, Perdita treats me like a classmate, maybe I’m just not a ‘master’ material to her. But when she was spayed (i.e. her ovaries and uterus removed as part of our responsible parenthood heehee and for other health reasons), she clung to me like a mother.
(On guard while she’s asleep.)
So yeah, Perdita has been spayed recently and Winello has been neutered last year. Hence, babies are not a possibility even if they occasionally date on the Iron Throne. Seriously, they don’t have sexual urges anymore. When cats have been spayed/ neutered, they no longer have that periodic ‘in heat’ days. Instead they feel like they are eternally young at hearts.
So there goes the funny yawn!

oh wits! they’re so cute! their fur are so beautiful! magaling ka din mag-alaga!
Thanks, KG! Motherly care heehee.
so glad to see both of them. love to see them both grown up.
I hope your cats are in good shape, too.
Cutey cute cute Winello and Perdita!
Thanks, Sheng. I remember you have pet dogs naman.
how i wish i can have a pet cat. I prefer dogs kasi hehehe. pag nagkaanak naman sila akin ang isang baby hehehe (joke)
Naku, hindi na sila magkaka anak. Kasi na spayed/ neutered na sila. Birth control for cats heehee.
.. they’re just so lovely! there are about a dozen of stray cats here in the compound where i work but sadly, we’re not allowed to have them as pets.
Thanks, Rob. Dito rin bawal ang pets in most of the flats/ apartments. Buti pumayag ang building owner after namin makisuyo.

I’m really more of a dog person, but your cats are adorable!
Hee!
Thanks! I used to like only the dogs. Now I’m obviously more attached to felines.
honesty, i’m not fond of cats as you do but you make perdita and winello so lovable in your blog posts. they’re too cute for words. ang kulit lang ng cat-relationship nila!
Thanks, Doc. Nakaaliw sila and the cute cat fights are part of the health of their growing up.
