desert safari

Stranded in a desert? Sort of. I went for the Desert Safari during the weekend. I went down in order to have the bunch of hills be captured in the photo. It was sunny yet windy that my face was almost covered by hair. This was taken before the dune bashing. I also did a camel ride, asked to dance with the belly dancer, feasted on Arabian dinner, got my first ever tattoo (a temporary one that you’ll often notice in Arab women’s hands), and more. I’ll let you know how terrific the experience was once I’m done sorting the photos.

For tonight, I still need to catch up on sleep and need to stabilize my groove first as the work week kicked off today. I hope you all had a great weekend, too.

blooms

Just as I went on with my usual weekend path, I noticed the flowers that thrive in this part of the world all year round. I decided to take few snaps just to let you know that there are actually flowers in the desert. :) I remember some of the reactions in my earlier posts that they never imagined that UAE is (can be) beautiful. Don’t worry, I had the same perception before coming here.

These flowers are normally intercropped (planted together) near the offices.

I don’t know though how they’re called. If you asked me when I was still in highschool, I could probably respond right away with scientific names provided. No kidding. Biology was one of my favorite subjects then aside from Chemistry. Ack, did I actually say Chemistry? It turned out I’m in an unrelated field.

Talking about scientific names, I had an unforgettable-even-if-I-want-to-forget experience about them. In one of our assessments, I was confident that I provided correctly the scientific names for all 100 items. Only to find out that I’m bokya (zero score). My late grandmother who patiently waits for my quizzes’ results wondered what went wrong. “I forgot to underline each scientific word.” That’s my biggest biology sin. I cried hard because of that. Haha. Until our reunion in 2006, some of my classmates still remember that. Pero ngayon tinatawanan ko na lang sya. Since then, I learned to become more technically careful.

Have a great week. Just laugh out your worries. :)

where i jog 4

Since I can hardly manage my love for eating and I don’t want to go to gym unless it’s in Makati (lol), I am trying to live healthily by other means. Aside from utilizing the friendly Wii Fit, I jog (and bike) during weekends. Although running is also available in the Nintendo toy, I would not trade running through the fresh air and embracing the morning breeze at least once a week. The following photos will show you my so-called weekend path.

Paperless Day_Abu Dhabi

I already got a stand by piece for this week’s Photo Hunt theme of Advertisement. Until I saw this post at the client’s office yesterday. I thought this would be more substantial. I wanted more details though and did a little googling. Only then I knew that this campaign for a Paperless Day is one of Abu Dhabi’s means of celebrating the annual World Environment Day (every 5th of June). I did not know there is such a thing (ignoramus, bohoo!). Since Friday and Saturday are weekend here, the campaign would be held a day earlier. And that’s today.

This year’s theme is Your Planet Needs You: Unite To Combat Climate Change. The environmental agency of Abu Dhabi listed 10 Tips to help us go paperless in the office. I think all of these are long known to many, so I consider these as gentle reminders. Except for number 8, which I am practising not primarily to go paperless but because I find it more practical.

Reduce the number of newspapers delivered to your home or workplace. Read the newspaper online.

I wonder how the (printed) newspaper industry would take this as a recommendation. Aside from the paperless day in the offices, they will also hold a global youth discussion forum through videoconferencing, a play on climate change by school kids, and radio and mall quiz on climate change for public.

In the Philippines, they have lined up different campaigns for tomorrow, June 5:

Cavite city
In observance of World Environment Day, officers and personnel of this organization will plant 1,000 mahogany trees and will conduct a shoreline cleanup drive along the base premises.

Pasig
Title of Event: Dance for LIFE! Type of Event: Club Party Event Objective: Raise Awareness on Environment Protection by Showing Audio Visual Presentation in Tune with Electro-House and Trance Music. Beneficiaries: Team Gratitude -Aetas displaced in the Island of Boracay and Donate portion of Funds to UNEP chose.

Others
College of Saint Benilde will hold a series of competitions with a theme “SAFARI” for the World Environment Day awareness among students.

You may check here how the rest of the world will celebrate World Environment Day.

fronting Sharjah Office

I’m glad to have an office with a view. Almost the same with our Abu Dhabi office, the one in Sharjah (neighbor emirate of Dubai) is refreshing as well.

I intentionally sat by the window during the training, not expecting that I’d be embraced by this sight.  I immediately took snaps using a camfone.

No matter how busy the day gets, these food for the eyes make me feel like it’s easy Sunday morning.  There will always be something beautiful near you, only if you’ll turn around a little and will keep an open mind and eye. Enjoy the week, everyone. :)
