Abu Dhabi Grand Prix 2010 tickets

The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix tickets were sold out last night. And I almost lost my chance.

It was not that I wanted to learn my lesson the hard way. But it really took me so long to decide if I should buy the tickets or not because months ago I anticipated that I might be traveling outside the UAE by next week’s long break. (Yes, we have a week off due to Islam’s Eid al-Adha, i.e. Festival of Sacrifice.) Also, I hesitated if Linkin Park will indeed be one of the performers at the after-race concerts. While their attendance as well as of Kanye West, Prince and others has long been confirmed by the organizers, I still reserved my doubt until its chance of happening was probable. Why? Because much more than the race, I am interested about the after-race concerts happening on the 12th, 13th and 14th of November. Yes, there goes my personal main triggers. And here’s the catch, only those who are holding the F1 race tickets will be allowed entry to the concerts. And the search is over, much thanks to those (you know who you are!) who helped us get the tickets last minute.

goto king abu dhabi
(Goto King changes the interiors depending on the occasion. During our four consecutive visits, we also noticed that they consistently changed the themed placemats.)

It has been almost a year prior to our October visit to Goto King. From the soft opening, its current taste and feel are impressive. In fact, we are frequenting it. Each weekend of this month to be very exact, like a hard habit to break. And two weekends ago, it changed its interiors which is encouraging enough to make us visit (over and again) to spend time with their pumpkins, skeletons and witches to feel the Halloween (instead of watching Child’s Play, Grudge, Ring, Paranormal Activity and other horror films; however, I am watching the Tagalog horror flicks line up on Cinema One while writing this which got me in the mood to use a spooky font to watermark this set of photos).

Abu Dhabi Week Think Pink

Abu Dhabi Week is a magazine distributed in several establishments in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi (well, yeah, the name suggests so) every week. It is packed with valuable information about lifestyle, real estate, city’s latest news, and more. With its glossy physique and weekly feature, it is too generous to be available for all for free. One of reality’s drivers that the best things in life are indeed free. This week’s cover is extra interesting not because my favorite color is pink. The mosque backgrounder with pink is dedicated to the celebration of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

al fanar revolving restaurant, abu dhabi
(The restaurant revolves slowly, in a manner that will not make you dizzy. You enjoy the sumptuous meal while your eyes are fed at the same time through the panoramic and per minute changing view of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. And yes, the Norah Jones-like charming lady sings Don’t Know Why, I’ll Be Watching You, Somewhere Over The Rainbow, and other renditions that will make your stay more worthwhile.)

Since the first year I have been miles away, I have learned to celebrate my birthday with people back home simultaneously (i.e. we munch on pancit or anything that symbolizes long life and other comfort food).  On the other hand, my friends-colleagues and I in this part of the globe do a sort of thanksgiving for the added year that we have wisen up. I must say that we are intentionally mindful of each other’s birthday and other occasions because these are the perfect chance for us to get together, to withdraw from the inherent monotony (we all have that eh?). We have tried something very different from last year, plus that I had a joint celebration with a colleague.

I have been meaning to write about this since last year, following its unsuccessful attempt to be filmed in the UAE. However, I trashed the thought since I was not a follower of the series, Sex and The City (SATC). But the recurring misconceptions coming my way, i.e. “the-why-did-you-not-tell me-that-parts-of-Sex and the City 2-were-filmed in-Abu Dhabi”, “I-want-to-go-there-what-else-to-see-and-to-do-aside-from those-shown-in-the-movie”, led me to drafting this. That is surprising, considering that it has been much publicized that certain scenes in SATC 2 were actually filmed in Morocco and not in Abu Dhabi.
